First Smiles

Sawyer has been smiling a little bit when he has sweet dreams, gas, and other "practice smiles." However yesterday I am positive that he smiled for the the first time in response to my smile, which is a big difference than all of those other smiles. I was able to get about ten smiles out of him when as we went back and forth taking turns smiling at each other. It's amazing to have a little person look you in the eyes, hear your voice, and smile right back at you. He definitely made my heart melt. Here are a few smiles that I was able to capture on camera, they aren't the best but it is hard to time it just right.

One Month Check-Up

My little man is a month old already, I can't believe it. Today was his one month check-up. He weighed 10 pounds 14.8 ounces which put him in the 75th percentile for weight. He was 21.5 inches long, which put him in the 55th percentile for height and I don't know what his head circumference was, but he was in the 55th percentile for the size of his head also. Overall, Sawyer seems to being growing great! He definitely has reflux going on so they put him on a prescription to help with that. I really hope it helps his tummy to feel better. He also has Thrush so they gave us medicine for that as well and said that it could be contributing to why he has been screaming and crying so much lately. Lastly, they gave us a multivitamin so he can make sure he is getting enough vitamin D. Sawyer is smiling more and more every day, but it is still hard to tell if he is smiling randomly because of gas and sweet dreams or if he is really smiling at us. Yesterday we went out to lunch at Chick-Fil-A and as we were getting ready to leave I got a picture of Sawyer with my cell phone where he has a little smile on his face, plus he looks pretty darn cute in his hat. Sawyer slept for about 5 hours last night! Today, Sawyer took another bath and got all clean for the doctor. Then he slept most of the afternoon in his swing. Here are some more pictures from today.Sawyer waking up this morning

4 weeks old... Already??

I can't believe that my baby was 4 weeks old yesterday. Time is going by so fast! Last night Sawyer slept for 8 hours. I didn't sleep that long though, I kept waking up to make sure he was still alive. I guess I'm not used to him sleeping that long. He has also been sleeping most of the day today. I hope that it doesn't mean no sleep tonight. On Friday my Aunt Lynne and Uncle Dan came to visit Sawyer. It was really fun because they got to see how much he has grown already!

Sawyer and I went to Target today to get out of the house and go for a stroller ride (it's too hot outside for him). I was also trying to find something we could do so he would stop sleeping all day and sleep a little tonight. This evening we read his first book. It was different baby faces on each page, I'm pretty sure Sawyer loved it, so we read it twice :). He has really enjoyed his swing today he fell asleep in it three times! We also tried out his tummy time mat for the first time. Sawyer was definitely getting frustrated trying to lift his little head up. He is getting much better at holding his head up for a long period of time. It has been so much fun watching him grown and change. Now if only we could work on sleeping 8 hours every night :).

Sawyer in his swing... listen carefully for little baby noises (exactly 4 weeks old). Not the best quality it's from my cell phone:

Ella Fitzgerald and Starbucks

Its only 8:50 am here and it's already been an exciting day :). Last night was a rough one, Matt took the "first shift" and stayed up with Sawyer until I'm not really sure what time because he let me sleep. Then this morning when Sawyer woke up I had "2nd shift" and let Matt sleep. Sawyer has been having problems spitting up excessively, sometime even an hour after he eats. He has also been gagging a lot and screaming after not eating for very long. I called the Pediatrician yesterday and she said that Sawyer most likely has GER, for now she just gave me tips on how to try and keep him from spitting up such as: propping him up when he sleeps, burping after he eats on each side, and keeping him propped up for 15 to 20 minutes after eating. First day attempt at all of that didn't help much. She said that if that doesn't help then they will give us drops to give him when we see the Doctor on the 19th for his one month old check-up. That could make for a long 6 more days if the tips she gave us don't start working soon.

So this morning after 2 hours of a screaming baby and nothing working to calm him down, I stuck him in his car seat and we went for a ride. It was my first outing just the two of us. We went to Starbucks and listened to Ella Fitzgerald along the way. I'm not sure at what point Sawyer fell asleep, I do know that he was at least relaxed for most of it and enjoyed the ride. By the end of my car ride this is what the results were:

Sawyer sound asleep (yay!)

and me... wide awake... Starbucks was a bad idea (ignore my hair.. it has been a long morning).

What Happens at Grandma's Stays at Grandma's...

Julie left today and now we have no more visitors. It has been pretty quiet around here today, but I'm also looking forward to getting into more of a routine with Matt and Sawyer. Today Sawyer went to Babies R Us and Target with me and Granny Moore. Other than that nothing too exciting, Sawyer is tired today because he was up late last night. Sawyer has also been cooing a lot more lately. It sounds like he has so much to say :). Here are a few pictures from today:

I sent my mom this outfit before Sawyer was born. She took a picture of it without him in it and then wanted a picture of him finally inside. She forgot it though when she came to visit so it came in a package instead yesterday. So we dressed Sawyer in it today so she could have a few pictures. So mom.. this one and the next couple are for you.

Sleeping so peacefully

Sawyer loves to have his hands free all of the time, especially while sleeping

Trip to Atlanta and Sawyer is 3 weeks old!

Friday August 6th: Matt, Sawyer and I went on our first road trip to Atlanta. Sawyer was really good he slept the whole entire time on the way there. We stopped at Tim's apartment before dinner and fed Sawyer and changed his diaper, then he managed to fall back asleep and sleep through dinner. I can't complain, Matt and I both got to eat our whole meal and spend time with everyone. Matt's whole family was there. Becky,Paul, Scott, Amelia, Micah, Elliot, Kerri, Brent, Kenzie, Camden, Tim, Kim, and Paul and Becky's friends Jim and Nancy Freud got to come to dinner too. Matt's Aunt Tammy even stopped by to say hello at the end of dinner. On the way back home however Sawyer didn't sleep the whole time he cried for the last 45 minutes of the trip. I think he wanted to be held and was stuck in his car seat. He was pretty worn out though and slept from about 2 am til 7 am the next day!

Tammy holding Sawyer

Saturday August 7th: Sawyer is 3 weeks old today, I can't believe it has already been 3 weeks! My roommate from college, Julie, came to visit today. She is staying until Tuesday to see Sawyer for a bit. Tonight Julie, Sawyer, and I went out to dinner at Panera. Sawyer cried the whole entire time we went out. So I held Sawyer while Julie ate and then she held Sawyer while I ate. We decided after dinner it was time to go back home. Of course when we got back home Sawyer was done with his crying episode. While we were at Panera I saw Sawyer's first tear come out of his eye. It was just one that rolled down his left cheek. I'm thankful that there weren't anymore than just one.. something about crying with tears seems a lot more sad.
3 weeks old.. already...

Wednesday and Thursday

August 4th: Tonight Paul, Becky, Kenzie, Camden, Matt, Sawyer, and I all went out to dinner at Quizno's and then to Academy Sports after. I changed Sawyer's first diaper in public on the changing table in the bathroom. It wasn't too bad, but I felt pretty proud of myself. Then I was able to enjoy another first, Sawyer was hungry so I fed him in the fitting room. It wasn't the most comfortable place, but I fully understand the convenience of breast feeding compared to bottle feeding. After Academy Sports the three of us went to Target for a few items. Sawyer slept through most of that which was good. Overall he had a good day. :)

August 5th: Sawyer didn't sleep very well last night he was up for most of the night. It made for a long night for Matt and I. Today Sawyer got his 2nd bath so far which went a lot faster than the first one. He still doesn't like to take a bath and cried during most of it. After not sleeping last night, Sawyer has slept most of the day today really only waking up to eat before falling back asleep. This has been nice so Matt and I could rest up. I'm hoping it doesn't mean that he will be awake all night though. Pray that tonight goes better than last night. Tomorrow Brent and Kerri get back from the Bahamas and they arrive in Atlanta. Tim lives in Atlanta and Scott and Amelia will be there for a conference. Matt, Sawyer, I are going to attempt our first road trip to Atlanta tomorrow. It's only an hour and a half drive so we are going to try and visit everyone and go out to dinner there with Matt's whole family. Wish us luck, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sawyer got a bath today.. it was his 2nd one.. I can't say that he liked it much better than he liked the first one. It's ok though they will grow on him eventually. Matt and I were a lot faster at giving him this bath than we were the first time.Sawyer getting his 2nd bath

All clean after his bath and worn out, so he decided a nap sounded nice :)

A lot of catching up to do...

It's been a little while since I have written anything. It's been pretty busy around here with company, but a lot of fun. I'll see if I can remember back to Saturday and update you on everything.

Saturday 7/31: Sawyer is 2 weeks old today. During the day he enjoyed snuggling with Uncle Brent for a bit followed by snuggling and taking a nap with Uncle Scott. It's amazing how much Sawyer has grown already in these past 2 weeks. For dinner Matt, Sawyer, and I went and ate dinner at Panera. It was our first time out together just the three of us. Sawyer was asleep the whole time, he made it pretty easy for us to take him out to dinner. After Panera the three of us even went to get ice cream. I had Sorbet though because Sawyer's tummy has been having problems with dairy products. Later Saturday night Scott, Kerri, Brent, Matt, and me went to go and see the movie Dinner for Schmucks, which was really funny. Amelia had left in the morning to go back and do a photo shoot for a wedding. Granny and Grandpa Moore babysat Sawyer for a few hours so we could go out. It was really nice and greatly appreciated. Look at how much Sawyer has changed in 2 weeks:

Sunday 8/1: We didn't do much today just hung out around the house. Tim and Kim stopped by to pick up Kerri and Brent to take them to Atlanta for their trip the Bahamas. They left after dinner along with Scott and the boys.

Monday 8/2: Again we didn't do much today, just spent some time with Sawyer, Kenzie, and Camden while they are here. Sawyer and I went outside and sat on the swing for a little bit in the evening while it was cool and watched Matt teach Kenzie how to ride her bike that she got for her birthday.

Tuesday 8/3: Paul, Becky, Kenzie, and Camden all went to Nashville today to see Scott, Amelia, Micah and Elliot. Matt and I stayed at home and spent time with Sawyer. We even got out for a car ride which was fun. Sawyer only napped about 20 minutes during the day I was surprised he was awake so much! Hopefully this means he is getting his nights and days figured out a little bit? We'll see. He seems to be eating almost every 2 hours now not very often does he go past 2 without getting hungry and wanting to eat. He is growing so fast!
