Rice Cereal

The end result of rice cereal... do you think he liked it? :)

Sawyer had his four month check up on Wednesday (12/1/10). He weighed in at 16.2 lbs and was 25 inches long. Little man is growing fast! He also had to get his shots and did a really good job. He only cried when they stuck him and then I picked him up and held him and he calmed down right away. The doctor and the nurses all loved Sawyer and thought he was a really happy baby. We just got the internet again on Friday so I can update the blog AND my computer came last weekend which means I can upload some pictures to the blog.

At Sawyer's four month check up his pediatrician said we could start feeding him rice cereal in the evenings before bed. She seemed to think this would help him sleep longer through the night and prevent him from waking up every 2 hours. So last night we tried to feed Sawyer one tablespoon of rice cereal mixed with four tablespoons of breast milk. He went to bed for good at 11:00 pm, woke up at 12:30am, woke up at 3:30 am, had a massive poop, stayed up until 4:30 am, and then went back to sleep until about 8:00 am. He didn't wake up every 2 hours, but still not the long stretch I was looking for. I don't think he even swallowed very much rice cereal.

Luckily, Friday night Sawyer had a stretch of 6 hours he slept (keep in mind Friday during the day Sawyer took ONE nap for TEN minutes, the little guy was pooped by bed time). Saturday he did sleep for about 4 and a half hours at one time. Other than that he woke every 2 hours at night.

Another long night....

I'm trying to get better at blogging. It has been so difficult lately with all of our traveling. I'm really looking forward to getting settled in our own home :). Just in time for Christmas too! I'm really looking forward to Sawyer's first Thanksgiving (even though he can't eat the great food) and Christmas.

Last night was another long day and long night. Sawyer isn't really taking naps for a long period of time. I think we get about thirty minutes in here and there. Around 9:30 Sawyer went to bed, but it wasn't for long. Twenty minutes later he woke up and stayed awake until about midnight and then woke up at 2:30 in the morning and stayed awake until 4 am. This being awake until 4 am wasn't fun it was filled with Sawyer screaming, me finally calming him down, laying him down to sleep, and his eye balls instantly popping open the second I layed him back down for bed. This led to more screaming and chewing on my shoulder because his teeth hurt. It's hard not being able to do anything, I had already given tylenol at 12 before bed and I couldn't give it again until 4 am. Luckily, Sawyer slept from 4 to 8, still not a lot of sleep for me, but I will take the 4 consecutive hours instead of waking up every 2. Right now he is napping and has been napping for almost 2 hours. This is his longest nap in a few days.

Tomorrow Granny and Grandpa Moore come to visit for Thanksgiving and bring down all of our things from Chattanooga so we are ready to move on December 1st. I'm so thankful for all of the help we have gotten from so many people. There is no way we could have done any of this without them. Love and support from family and friends has truly meant the world to me. My car will finally arrive tomorrow Paul and Becky are driving it down with all of our other things. This will mean more time for Sawyer and I to get out and do a few things. I think he does better at night when he can get out in the car and do something during the day.

A Teething Four Month Old

I thought I would finally have a moment to blog, but I'm pretty sure I just heard a little voice over the monitor. So, we'll see how much I can get in before he starts to cry instead of talk to himself in the room. I can't believe that Sawyer was four months old yesterday. On November 12, Sawyer rolled over for his Great Uncle Brad. Brad had no idea it had been awhile since Sawyer's first time of rolling over. Matt and I had been cheering Sawyer on for weeks now when he made it as far as his side, I still haven't seen him roll over. Although the second I walk away with him on his tummy I come back to find him laying on his back. He is a sneaky one.

Sawyer has also been teething lately. This has made for long, late, sleepless nights. It's hard to see him in pain and not be able to calm him down. We've tried the tylenol, cool teething rings, and teething gel. Not much seems to help him much. Anyone have any other ideas?

It's amazing it's already been four months since Sawyer was born, I can't imagine my life without him. He brings such happiness to my life. Of course we have some pretty rough days together, but his big smile or laugh can always seem to brighten my day.

Matt started work last Wednesday (Nov. 10) and he LOVES his job. I am now a full-time stay at home mom. Ok, I still have a little help from Matt's Aunt Tricia and Dalton's girlfriend Hannah. I do a lot of it on my own still because Tricia and Hannah both work. It's been interesting finding time to eat.. shower.. and go to the bathroom. Sawyer and I are figuring it out together. The weather here in Texas is beautiful so Sawyer and I have got to go on a few walks together. He seems to love being outside still.

Ok.. that's all I can update now, someone is going from happy to frustrated and I want to go in and get him before frustrated turns into really angry.

Sawyer's Trip Across the United States

Cody and Sawyer

Hannah and Sawyer

Dalton and Sawyer

Kinlee and Sawyer

Where do I even begin? So much has happened since I blogged last. Matt, Sawyer, and I traveled all over so Sawyer could meet a lot of his family and friends. At the end of September Matt left a week ahead of me to go to Texas and begin looking for jobs. The following week Me, Sawyer, and Granny left and drove to Denton, Texas to stay with Tricia, Brad, Dalton, Matson, and Connor. Our 12 hour car ride ended up turning into 16 hours with all of the stops we had to make to feed and change Sawyer. We also got to go to Matt's Uncle ,Tom's wedding while we were in Denton. We spent about a week in Denton and then went on to Wichita Falls, Texas where Matt grew up. Sawyer and I got a chance to see Matt's old house, his high school, and we even got to eat BOB's for breakfast. The Scarbrough's let us stay with them while we were in Wichita Falls. Sawyer also got to meet a few of Matt's friends while we were there. It was so neat to finally get the chance to see where Matt grew up.
Granny and Sawyer at Tom's Wedding

After Wichita Falls we drove 8 hours up to Hastings, Nebraska. It was homecoming weekend and we were excited to show Sawyer to our friends and a few professor's. We spent four nights in Hastings and then drove to Omaha to spend some time with my family. On October 12, 2010 while we were at my grandpa's house (Sawyer's Great Grandpa, Lew) Sawyer laughed for the first time it was so amazing. My mom was making silly faces and noises and got him to laugh. Matt, Dani, Great Grandpa, Grandma Judy, and I were all able to hear it.

My Grandpa and all of his great grandkids

4 Generations

Then, after spending a week in Omaha I flew to Oregon with my mom, Sawyer, and Ron. October 18, 2010 was the first time that Sawyer got to fly on an airplane. He did a pretty good job too. The only time he cried much on the first flight to Minneapolis was when we were landing. On the 2nd flight into Portland he had a little bit of a melt down in the middle of the flight but Grandma Judy took him to the back and held him for a little bit. It was so nice to get to spend time with my mom and Ron out in Oregon and they really enjoyed the time that they got to spend with Sawyer since my mom hadn't seen him since he was born and it was Ron's first time. While we were there Sawyer went to the beach for the first time, this was on October 29th. On October 28th, Sawyer found his hands and started to stare at them. It's so cute, he also loves to talk to them. Also while we were out in Portland Sawyer got his 3 month pictures taken. I'm really looking forward to getting them back and seeing what they look like.

Grandma and Sawyer at the beach

Yesterday (November 3rd) Sawyer and I (Yes, just Sawyer and I) flew back to Texas to meet up with Matt. Sawyer was excited to see his Daddy, it had been a long time, 2 and a half weeks. The plane ride went smooth for the most part. I met a few rude people on my first flight followed by meeting some of the nicest people ever on my 2nd flight. I think Sawyer is a little worn out today from all of the traveling. No more traveling for a little while. At least not until we have to go back to Tennessee to move everything out! We almost have a place to call home because...
Matt got a job!! We are moving to Denton, Texas!! Matt's job is in Frisco, so he will have to commute about 45 minutes every day, which stinks a little bit. He will have to travel for his job so living in Denton puts me close to family in case I would ever need help. The job that Matt took is with Fiserv, he will be a Conversion/Install Analyst and his first day is November 9, 2010! Sawyer is so excited and proud of his Daddy.
I'm amazed and how much Sawyer has grown over the last month. He is started to talk so much more than before and make more sounds than just ooohh and ahhh. You can hear a few d's, p's, b's, m's, and r's in his babble. He's smiling so much and only laugh's occasionally. He's starting to become more sensitive to sounds. Even a cough can scare him. Whenever Sawyer gets scared he sticks out his bottom lip and curls it then turns bright red, followed by a scream. Being a mom is wonderful. There is nothing better than waking up to Sawyer's smiling face every morning and listening to him talk to himself for a little bit while he is in bed. He brings so much happiness into my life. I didn't know you could love some one so little so much.

Yes.. we took Sawyer and his swing out to the tennis courts while we played tennis.
He was hiding.. afraid he might get hit or something, just kidding. We did surround him with objects though in case a ball went his way.

So Many Changes

Friday the 10th was Sawyer's first night in his crib. I know we waited awhile to put him in there. We had company until Sawyer was three weeks old and some one was always sleeping in his room. Instead of putting him in his crib afterwards like we should have, I got a little too attached to my buddy sleeping in the same room as me where I knew he was safe. He didn't like his crib the first night, he woke up about every hour and a half to every two hours. Saturday night (9/11/10) he slept five hours straight which was much better. However, Sunday night (9/12/10) we were back to Sawyer sleeping only a few hours at a time in his crib. Then on Monday night (9/13/10) he slept longer gain. Anway as you can tell we have had a consistent pattern lately of Sawyer sleeping long hours one night and short hours the next night.

On Sunday (9/12/10) Sawyer's bassinet was taken apart and put in the closet for storage. I also packed up his newborn baby clothes and put them away. My little man has officially outgrown some clothes and his little bassinet. He's is getting so big I can't believe it! Sawyer loves playing peek-a-boo lately, he smiles so big and will make a lot of noises. He makes different noises every day now and they seem to surprise him when a new one comes out that he hasn't made before. I enjoy watching his face look shocked. Sawyer also really enjoys having books read to him. He really likes his Bob the Builder book that we got from Bryan, Kattie, Blake, and Ellie. One night we read it three times because he kept smiling and "talking" to the book.

This week Sawyer has also discovered his hands a little more. He isn't looking at them yet. He does try to stick them in his mouth and suck on them all of the time. He gets relaxed by sucking on his thumb, or really any finger or fingers that get into his mouth. He still doesn't enjoy taking a bath and will scream the whole time he is in the tub. I hope that changes soon.

Changing Sawyer's diaper isn't too bad right now. He loves to lay on the changing table and look at me and smile the whole time I do it. All the smiles he gives me make changing a stinky diaper a little more fun. One thing that will make Sawyer relaxed is to sit outside in the evenings and swing together. He can sit completely still and look around for at least 45 minutes without crying. I'm amazed. Monday night Sawyer cried for 50 minutes straight, but when I walked outside with him to get something he immediately stopped crying. I think he will want to play outside a lot when he gets older.

Sawyer will be 2 months old tomorrow. I can't believe it, this past month has gone by so fast!

Grandpa Dale's Birthday

My dad would have been 56-years-old today, of course there isn't a day that goes by when I don't miss him. However, days like today I miss him just a little bit more. Of course I know that if he were here he'd be mad if anyone bought him presents because just spending time with everyone was enough. We would go out to dinner and for dessert I'd split chocolate cake with him. This year if he were here I wouldn't get to split chocolate cake with him though because it upsets Sawyer's tummy. Instead, he would be a proud grandpa who would love spending time with his grandson and that would be the best birthday present for him. I see my dad in Sawyer with his "butt" chin and even more I see my dad in me. It's been fun being a mom and I enjoy every minute of it. A lot of which I learned from my dad. I learned not to take any moment for granted and to enjoy the little things. I've learned to find happiness in everything and make the best out of any situation. I have learned to be an amazing parent from my dad (and my mom of course). I look forward to Sawyer growing up and teaching him the things that my dad taught me. I'll love Sawyer no matter what happens in our lives, no matter what trouble he gets into later on. I'll make sure he treats people how he wants to be treated and to treat everyone kindly. I'll tell him every day how I think he is handsome, loving, and beautiful not only on the outisde, but the inside as well. There was never a day where my dad didn't make me feel loved and special and the same is what I want for Sawyer. I look forward to going to all of his athletic events and being one of his biggest fans along with his dad. There is so much I want for my little boy as does any parent for their children. One thing I'll make sure is that my dad continues to live on in me and in Sawyer by the way we treat others. Also, even though Sawyer's Grandpa isn't around to watch him grow up. Sawyer will know what a wonderful Grandpa he would have had. He'll always know that his Grandpa is his Angel watching over him and keeping him safe.

Sawyer Rolled Over!!

On Saturday (9/4/10), Matt, Paul, and I went to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football game. Afterwards Sawyer and Becky met us for dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then afterwards we took Sawyer on a walk around downtown because it was beautiful outside. When we got home Matt and I thought that maybe we should give Sawyer some tummy time. This time Sawyer decided to surprise us and rolled over two times!!! I tried to get a third one on video, but by then he was tired and frustrated and didn't want to roll over for us any more.

Pictures

Here are a few pictures of Sawyer from today. He really enjoys playing on his little play gym. He likes to look at himself in the mirror and bat at the objects hanging down. The music that it plays makes him smile a lot. Sawyer pooped on one of his little outfits today, but when doesn't he? So I took a few pictures of his cute naked body. Don't worry, I kept it G so later in life Sawyer won't get mad at me for posting his body parts on the internet. Enjoy :)This picture is from 2 days ago.. Matt and Sawyer watching TV together, pretty cute

He loves to be naked.. it's funny

First Smiles

Sawyer has been smiling a little bit when he has sweet dreams, gas, and other "practice smiles." However yesterday I am positive that he smiled for the the first time in response to my smile, which is a big difference than all of those other smiles. I was able to get about ten smiles out of him when as we went back and forth taking turns smiling at each other. It's amazing to have a little person look you in the eyes, hear your voice, and smile right back at you. He definitely made my heart melt. Here are a few smiles that I was able to capture on camera, they aren't the best but it is hard to time it just right.

One Month Check-Up

My little man is a month old already, I can't believe it. Today was his one month check-up. He weighed 10 pounds 14.8 ounces which put him in the 75th percentile for weight. He was 21.5 inches long, which put him in the 55th percentile for height and I don't know what his head circumference was, but he was in the 55th percentile for the size of his head also. Overall, Sawyer seems to being growing great! He definitely has reflux going on so they put him on a prescription to help with that. I really hope it helps his tummy to feel better. He also has Thrush so they gave us medicine for that as well and said that it could be contributing to why he has been screaming and crying so much lately. Lastly, they gave us a multivitamin so he can make sure he is getting enough vitamin D. Sawyer is smiling more and more every day, but it is still hard to tell if he is smiling randomly because of gas and sweet dreams or if he is really smiling at us. Yesterday we went out to lunch at Chick-Fil-A and as we were getting ready to leave I got a picture of Sawyer with my cell phone where he has a little smile on his face, plus he looks pretty darn cute in his hat. Sawyer slept for about 5 hours last night! Today, Sawyer took another bath and got all clean for the doctor. Then he slept most of the afternoon in his swing. Here are some more pictures from today.Sawyer waking up this morning
